EDMONTON CITY CENTRE - RETAIL BRIDGE  (September, 2009)

The striking new Retail Bridge which now spans Edmonton’s busy 101st Street north of 102nd Avenue isn’t just a connection between two landmark shopping centres the former Edmonton Centre and the Edmonton Eaton Centre. The transparent pedestrian bridge, measuring 20 metres wide and nearly five metres high, is the crown jewel in an ambitious $44 million redevelopment and rejuvenation of what is now called Edmonton City Centre, encompassing three entire city blocks.  The glass-girdled bridge links in dramatic fashion Edmonton City Centres 930,000 square feet of retail and office space in the heart of downtown Edmonton. Like the redevelopment itself, the bridge has brought the two shopping centres together and positioned them for the retail demands of the early 21st century. We wanted to create an exceptional space for people to shop and meet, explains Greg Burns, retail marketing manager for Edmonton City Centre. A natural gathering place that offers a unique new downtown shopping destination, providing retailers with a vibrant location that invites, intrigues and entices.
